Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains what information EVCostIQ collects when you visit this website, how it is used, and the choices you have. EVCostIQ is an independent, advertising-supported website that publishes electric-vehicle versus gasoline total-cost-of-ownership estimates. We try to collect as little as possible. We do not sell your personal information.

Who we are

EVCostIQ is an independent publisher founded in 2026. You can reach us about anything in this policy at [email protected].

Cookies and local storage

We and our advertising partners use cookies, similar technologies, and your browser's local storage. We use these for two purposes:

  • Site functionality. Local storage on your own device remembers calculator inputs and preferences (for example, the vehicles you compared or your assumptions) so the tool works smoothly. This data stays in your browser; we do not transmit it to our servers.
  • Advertising. Our third-party advertising vendors set cookies to serve and measure ads, as described below.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some site features may not work as well if you do.

Advertising — Google AdSense and third-party vendors

This site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google and third-party advertising vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may use cookies, including the DoubleClick (advertising) cookie, to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You can learn more and manage your ad settings here:

US state privacy rights. If you are a resident of a US state with a comprehensive privacy law (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, Oregon and others), you have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for targeted advertising. When advertising is active we surface a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control (via our consent tool, which sends the IAB Global Privacy Platform signal); you can also enable a browser-level Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, which we honor.

Consent in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before non-essential cookies (including advertising cookies) are set. When advertising is active, this is handled by a consent banner (a Consent Management Platform, or CMP) shown on your first visit.

  • You can accept, reject, or set granular preferences. Where you do not consent, advertising is limited to non-personalized ads, which still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention but not to profile you.
  • You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by reopening the consent banner (look for the privacy/consent settings link on the page) and updating your choices.

Opting out of personalized advertising

In addition to Google Ads Settings, you can opt out of personalized advertising from many vendors through these industry tools:

Analytics

If we use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to count visits and understand which pages are useful, it is configured to collect aggregated, non-identifying usage data only. We do not use analytics to build advertising profiles. Where consent is required, analytics cookies are covered by the consent banner described above.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not request names, addresses, or payment details to use the calculator.
  • We take no manufacturer commissions or referral fees, so we have no incentive to track you for a sale.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. For ad-related cookies, the controls above are the fastest route; for anything else, email us and we will help. Note that much of the data here is held by Google and the ad vendors rather than by us — their own policies and tools (linked above) govern that data.

Children

This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. We will revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
