Tesla Model 3 RWD or Peugeot 2008 1.2 PureTech 100 Active — which is cheaper to own in Portugal?

As of 1 July 2026: over 5 years in Portugal (12,000 km/year), the Peugeot 2008 1.2 PureTech 100 Active is still the cheaper car to own — about €32,963 versus €39,381 for the Tesla Model 3 RWD, a gap of €6,418.

Fundo Ambiental (Environmental Fund purchase incentive): the state grant of 4 000 € towards a new 100% electric car exists in 2026, but it is conditional: the buyer must scrap a combustion-engine vehicle more than 10 years old, the EV must cost ≤ 38 500 € (≤ 55 000 € for models with more than 5 seats), and it is one grant per beneficiary, first come, first served until the 10 000 000 € budget runs out (applications 11 Jun to 27 Jul 2026). Plug-in hybrids are not eligible. Several EVs in this bracket sit above the cap (Tesla Model Y 39 990 €, Volvo EX30 38 632 €), so most buyers do not qualify.
