Cost by model

2026 EV purchase subsidy: when you buy a new electric passenger car, a national subsidy (국고보조금) and a separate local-government subsidy (지방자치단체 보조금) are paid out. The national subsidy is scaled by vehicle performance and price — generally up to about 650만 원 — and the local subsidy (지방보조금) added on top varies widely by where you live (applications close once each municipality's budget runs out). Cars priced under 5,300만 원 get the full amount, those from 5,300만 원 to under 8,500만 원 get only 50%, and anything above that is excluded. Not every buyer receives the same amount, and schemes can close early once the budget is spent — so we show the subsidy separately and do not fold it into the total cost shown above. Source: the Ministry of Environment's zero-emission vehicle portal 무공해차 통합누리집 (ev.or.kr) / your local municipality, as of . Always confirm your eligibility and the exact amount before you buy.

Registration, taxes and annual costs: South Korea has no recurring annual subsidy credited to electric cars each year — the EV's advantage comes mainly from running costs (charging, maintenance). EVs do get the 개별소비세 (individual consumption tax), 교육세 (education tax) and 취득세 (acquisition tax) reduced up to set caps, and the annual 자동차세 (vehicle tax) is also set low, depending on the commercial/private classification. We feed these savings straight into the running costs — they are not a cash subsidy. Perks such as the 50% discount on expressway tolls have fixed sunset dates, so even if you read that they still apply, check they are still in force as of the stated date. As of .
