EV vs petrol cost in the Philippines (2026) — the true 5-year total
As of July 2026: of the 42 models we track in the Philippines, the cheapest to own over 5 years is the Wuling Macaron 120 km at ₱875,257 — an electric car. That makes electric the outright winner in this market — though we still say it plainly wherever a petrol or hybrid model wins.
What an EV really costs to own in the Philippines versus petrol or a hybrid: depreciation, home charging, insurance, maintenance and LTO registration — every figure sourced and dated. Meralco electricity is high (₱14.48/kWh), there is no national cash purchase rebate (EV tax relief is already in the sticker price), and BEV resale is unproven — so for most buyers a petrol or hybrid wins the 5-year total, and only a few cheap city BEVs pull ahead. Each comparison shows exactly which, and when. In the Philippines, the Insurance Commission's mandatory CTPL premium for a private car is ₱560 a year — a fixed legal minimum, not comprehensive cover, and not what full insurance costs. Our 5-year totals use our own labeled estimate.
Choose your grid area
In the Philippines, the true cost of an EV vs petrol depends heavily on where you live: home electricity ranges from about 14.5₱/kWh to 14.5₱/kWh (a 1.0× spread) — enough to change, and sometimes flip, whether an EV or petrol car is cheaper. Petrol, incentives and registration are the Philippines-wide. Choose your grid area for numbers that are actually true for you.
